1991年新発売のキットです。初版で買ったので、買って作ったのは、まだギリギリソビエト連邦があった頃です。
キットは組み合わせでMiG-21のいくつかのタイプが作れるように、胴体があちこち別れているため、部品の合わせに注意が必要ですが、完成すれば結構出来のいいキットとなります。約30年前のキットですが、昨年新発売と言われても分からないような、出来の良いキットだと思います。
作品は90年代中ごろには完成していましたが、2017年、エナメル黒でシャドー吹きしてやりました。
90年以降、２度のプラモデル断捨離がありましたが、ソ連機は好きなので一つも処分していません。（＾＾）
MiG-21SMTはMiG-21SMの背中（コクピット後方部分）の燃料タンクを大型化したものです。
MiG-21SMTの次の型であり、MiG-21系列の最終生産型MiG-21Bisも背中に膨らみがありますが、SMTとはかなり形状が違います。SMTは燃料を増加させたのはいいんですが、重心が後ろに移動しすぎたため不評で、短期間で膨らみは小さく改修され、MiG-21Bisと同様の形状にされてしまいました。（この改修型はMiG-21STと呼ばれます。SMとかSMTとかSTとかややこしいですね。（＾＾））
Fujimi's 1/72 kit.
This kit was new released in 1991. I bought and built it at that time, when Soviet was still present.
In order to share parts with the other models of MiG-21, some blocks of the body are separated, and parts fitting is generally good. It is a 30 years old kit but is very good mood like as a 2010's kit. But it has been discontinued.
I built this kit in 1990s and I finished this kit in gloss clear. And in 2017 I airbrushed it with thinned flat black enamel paint at panel lines.
I love Soviet aircrafts very much, so I didn't abandon any kits of Soviet aircraft so far even if under my minimalism period.
MiG-21SMT has a larger fuel tank behind the cockpit than MiG-21SM.
MiG-21Bis, the next type of this MiG-21SMT, the final production type of MiG-21 series, also has a large tank on the back. But the shape is quite different from SMT.
SMT gained a large amount of fuel, but it caused gravity center moving and a difficult to flight. Therefore later SMT was modified into Bis type back. This modified version is called MiG-21ST.
