ブラックバーン・ロックです。デファイアントと同じようなのが、なぜもう一つあるのかというと、ロックは海軍なのです。
海軍もデファイアントが欲しかったんですが、マーリンエンジンは当時ハリケーンはじめ各種空軍機にひっぱりだこでしたので、空軍に断られてしまったのです。で、既存のエンジンでやむなく自主開発したのがロックです。大戦中の戦果は、、、駄作機の名に大変ふさわしいものでした。（＾＾）
中古ですが、初めてスペシャルホビーを買いました。わりと良いキットですね。
箱を開けたら、ランカスター用の別売りレジン機銃砲身が入っていました。以前も中古屋で買ったシャーマンに、別売りアルミ砲身が入っていました。前の所有者が、気合いを入れてレジンやエッチング、金属砲身などを買ったけれども、作れずに売り払った、という感じです。そうならないように、気合いを入れずに、ディテールアップせずにキットのまま組みましょう、というのが私のスタンスであります。（＾＾）
主翼がムダにパーツ分割されているので、角度と隙間に苦労しました。ムダに分割というか、艦上機なのでここで折りたたむための分割ですが、折りたたんだ状態が再現できるわけではありません。そんなパーツはセットされていません。だったら最初から作りやすさを考えて分割しないでおくのが、技術のないメーカーのやるべきことだと思うわけですが。。。
それ以外はサクサクできました。キャノピーの合いも良好でした。キャノピーが薄いので、マスキング時に、正面ガラスに縦にヒビを入れてしまいました。
機銃砲身のみ、件のレジンパーツを使いました。あとはキットのままですが、カウリング内部の、エンジン配管は面倒なのでディテールダウン、正面の三角骨組みフレームは特徴的なのでディテールアップしてあります。
国籍マークは塗装です。1938年時のマーキングです。1940年のマーキングのデファイアントとの共演は、模型ならではです。
This is Blackburn Roc of Special hobby. The reason why there is another similar plane Defiant, Defiant is for RAF and Roc is for Royal Navy.
Royal Navy wanted a Defiant, but the Merlin engine was in high demand for hurricanes and other RAF aircrafts at the time. So, Roc had to equippe with another engine.
And it ended in poor results togather with Defiant.
This is a second-hand kit. This is the first time I bought a Special hobby's kit. It is a generally good kit.
When I opened the box, there was an optional resin machine gun barrel for Lancaster. It seems that the previous owner wanted to make in tiny details and bought the resin parts, but he could not have enough time, and he sold to a second-hand shop. This is a very frequent case. But we want not to do so.
It was difficult to build the wings. This plane has a folding mechanism of the wing and the wing is devided an innner wing and an outer wing. These parts are not good fitting. Parts for the folding mode are not included. So don't make the model complex, you, small company! What does Special hobby intend?
Except for this point, I could build feel free. Canopies are good fitting too. Attention, canopies are very thin. The front canopy cracked.
I omitted some tiny details on the engine in the cowl. But I refined a triangle frame in the cowl. Because this is a feature of this engine.
National marks and fin flashes were painted by me. This marking is in 1938. The marking of Defiant is in 1940.
