中学時代の私は戦車オンリーのモデラーでしたが、持っていたタミヤのカタログに載っていて「カッコいいなあ」と思っていたキットです。いつか買いたいと思っていましたが、今回初めて作ってみました。
このキットは先に発売されていたハリアーの金型を改造したもののようですので、キットは70年代初期の設計でしょうか。そのため部品の合いも甘く、パネルラインも凸モールドです。無改造、無ディテールアップを旨として説明書どおり組んで塗装するのが私のスタイルですが（ただし飛行姿勢に改造はします）、エンジンノズルのフィンだけは醜い出来だったので、改造しました。モナカ割りでフィンの真ん中に接合部が来るという、オールドキットお決まりのパターンです。しかもフィンが分厚すぎ。写真のとおり、すべて削り落として0.3mmプラ板で作り変えました。凸ラインを凹ラインに彫りなおすことは私にはありえませんので（＾＾;）、機体の背中など、ヤスって消えた凸ラインは伸ばしランナーで復活させてあります。機体の腹と、爆弾の凸ラインは面倒くさいので消えたままです。
塗装は黒立ち上げのエアブラシで、国籍マークは毎度のごとく塗装です。
機体色は、バッカニアのようなダークシーグレーなのか、もっと青みが強い色なのか迷いました。ググったら幾分青っぽいようですので、自分で調合して青味の強い色に塗りましたが、後日「世界の傑作機」で確認したら、普通にダークシーグレーでした。。。orz
タミヤの箱絵やカタログは青すぎるようです。なおググると、妙に紺色の機体がヒットしますが、最近の復元塗装機ですのでご注意を。
デカールがクセモノでした。尾翼の部隊マーク、箱絵どおりのものにしようと思ったら、分厚くて馴染まない。マークセッターをタップリつけたら、おかしくなってヨレヨレに。修正しようと思ったらフチがぐちゃぐちゃ、白いシミも出て来るわで。。。
結局、剥がして他の部隊マークにしました。タミヤ製ということで安心しきっていましたが、主翼ウラのコードレターも含め、デカールの品質には問題があるようですね。
This kit seems to be a variation kit of the Harrier that was released earlier. So I think this is a kit designed in the early 70'. Therefore, the fitting of parts is not so good and the panel lines are convex molds.
The fins of engine nozzle are very poor, so I modified them. Since this is an old kit, a joining line comes in the centre of the fin and the fins are very thick. As shown in the photo, l removed these thick fins and made thin fins with 0.3 mm plastic plates.
I was wondering whether the body colour was a dark sea gray like Buccaneer or a more bluish colour. From many photos in web sites, I judged it seems to be bluish dark sea gray, and I mixed the colour and painted.
But when I later confirmed the colour in a famous pictorial magazine, it was standard dark sea gray. Damn it!
Tamiya's box art and a catalog sample seem too bluish. And when you google a Sea Harrier, you can find the one painted in fine navy blue. But be attention, it is a restored and repainted Sea Harrier.
The decal is poor quality. When I tried to fit the tail mark, it was not fit and was crumpled and covered with white stains. The Mark Softer liquid is not good for this decal?
After all, I removed it and took another squadron mark. I was careless because it is made by credible Tamiya. But it seems that there is a problem with the quality of the decal. The code letter of the wing also.
